Maroons Fall at Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. -- Host Elmhurst College scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning en route to an 8-2 win over the University of Chicago baseball team Tuesday afternoon.

Chicago (7-13) scored the game's first run on an RBI groundout off the bat of sophomore shortstop Rob Serpico (Schaumburg, Ill/. Hampshire). Serpico was 2-for-3 on the day to extend his hitting streak to 10 games -- the longest by a Maroon this year.

Elmhurst (11-24) evened the score with a run in the third before plating four runs in the fifth. Noah Wiza capped the outburst with a two-run double.

Senior center fielder Mike Morgan (Chicago, Ill./ Northridge Prep) delivered a run-scoring single for Chicago in the sixth, but Elmhurst countered with two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth.

Elmhurst hurler Nick Sharkey (1-0) allowed four hits and one earned run over five innings. He walked three and fanned four.

Freshman right-hander Marshall Oium (Temecula, Calif./ Great Oak) took the loss. Oium (0-2) gave up nine hits and seven runs -- three earned -- in 6.2 innings. He issued five walks while matching his career high with seven strikeouts.
