Maroons Win Season Finale
CHICAGO -- Senior designated hitter Dominik Meyer (River Forest, Ill./ Oak Park-River Forest) belted a game-deciding home run in the top of the eighth inning as the University of Chicago baseball team wrapped up its 2008 campaign with a 3-2 win over the host Illinois Institute of Technology Friday afternoon.
The Maroons (11-17) trailed 2-1 before Meyer slugged a two-run homer, his second of the year, to give Chicago the come-from-behind victory.
Chicago scored the first run of the contest in the top of the seventh when sophomore shortstop Rob Serpico (Schaumburg, Ill./ Hampshire) delivered an RBI single to plate senior right fielder Nathan Ginsberg (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./ Dobbs Ferry).
Ginsberg and Meyer each went 2-for-4 in their final game as Maroons.
Illinois Tech (11-23) scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh off sophomore right-hander Joe Pankow (Naperville, Ill./ North). Pankow (5-2) scattered five hits and struck out five en route to his fifth complete game of the year.
The victory marked the 298th for Head Coach Brian Baldea, who concluded his 18th season with the Maroons. Chicago closed out the season with three wins in its final four games.
