Chicago Announces 2008 Captains
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago Head Football Coach Dick Maloney announced today that junior safety Frank Chor (Orland Park, Ill./ Sandburg), junior quarterback John Kiernan (Joliet, Ill./ Catholic), and junior linebacker Todd Young (Clive, Iowa/ Valley) will serve as tri-captains for the 2008 campaign.
After starting at cornerback the past two seasons, Chor will convert to safety next fall. Chor led the Maroons with five pass breakups a year ago and was the only player on the team to record an interception, fumble recovery, and blocked kick.
Kiernan started six games at quarterback last season after earning All-UAA second-team honors as a wide receiver in 2006. Kiernan passed for 678 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 228 yards and three TDs a year ago.
A two-year starter in the secondary, Young will switch to outside linebacker in 2008. He ranked fifth on the team and second among defensive backs with 40 tackles last season. He was the UAA Rookie of the Year in 2005.
Chicago, which finished 4-5 overall this past season, kicks off its 2008 campaign against Kenyon College at Stagg Field on Saturday, Sept. 13.
