Tom Kaufman Named Assistant Football Coach
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago Director of Athletics Tom Weingartner announced today that Tom Kaufman has been appointed assistant football coach.
Kaufman will serve as defensive coordinator and secondary coach on the staff of Head Coach Dick Maloney, who enters his 15th year at Chicago in 2008.
Kaufman comes to Chicago following a three-year stint as linebackers coach and special teams coordinator at Case Western Reserve University. This past season, he helped guide Case to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs and an undefeated (10-0) regular season.
Prior to his arrival at Case, Kaufman spent two years (2003-04) as linebackers coach at Heidelberg College. In 2004, he was promoted to junior varsity head coach.
In 2003, Kaufman earned a bachelor's degree in English from John Carroll University, where he was captain of the football team. As a senior, he garnered All-Ohio Athletic Conference Second Team and Academic All-OAC First Team honors.
Kaufman received a master's degree in education from Heidelberg in 2005.
