Chicago Falls to Northwestern (Minn.)
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Josh Lundeen caught nine passes for 146 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns as host Northwestern (Minn.) College defeated the University of Chicago 37-0 in non-conference football action Saturday at Reynolds Field.
The game featured 12 turnovers, seven by Chicago (3-5) and five by Northwestern (8-2). The Eagles converted three of the Maroons' miscues into 17 points.
Northwestern moved 72 yards on 11 plays on the game's opening drive. An 8-yard strike from Zack Tarter to Jeremy Daggett gave the Eagles the early lead.
Northwestern recovered two Chicago fumbles during a 3:42 span beginning late in the first quarter and came away with 10 points.
Two plays after a Cody Crum 26-yard field goal, the Eagles' Zach Holsman returned a fumble 32 yards for the score to put Northwestern on top 16-0.
Aaron Pennington's 6-yard touchdown run with exactly one minute left in the first half gave the Eagles a 23-0 lead. Pennington rushed for a game-high 62 yards on 15 attempts.
Lundeen found the end zone twice in the third quarter, first on a 50-yard pass from Tarter at the 12:12 mark and on a 7-yard run off a fake field goal attempt with 1:04 left in the period.
Tarter was 20-for-32 for 214 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Junior quarterback John Kiernan (Joliet, Ill./ Catholic) completed seven of 10 attempts for 74 yards without an interception for Chicago. Sophomore Marshall Oium (Temecula, Calif./ Great Oak) was 8-for-20 for 71 yards with four interceptions.
Senior wide receiver Mike Albian (Darien, Ill./ Montini) caught a career-high 12 passes for 118 yards in a losing effort.
Northwestern notched its eighth consecutive victory, while the Maroons fell for the fourth straight week.
