Chicago Defeats Case 84-56
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Senior forward Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) notched his third double-double in as many games as the University of Chicago cruised to an 84-56 win over host Case Western Reserve University in University Athletic Association men's basketball action Sunday afternoon.
Hainje collected 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Chicago (15-7 overall, 8-3 UAA) to its third straight victory.
The win keeps the Maroons in a tie for second place in the UAA with three games left to play. Washington (Mo.) University maintained its one-game lead in the conference standings by virtue of a 78-71 overtime victory at Emory University.
Chicago never trailed in the contest. The Maroons built a 42-25 advantage at the half and increased their lead to 27 points, 64-37, by the midway point of the second stanza.
Junior guard Matt Corning (Wauconda, Ill./ Mundelein) and sophomore guard Jake Pancratz (Schaumburg, Ill./ Schaumburg) finished with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Pancratz, who handed out six assists, connected on four of eight three-point attempts, and Corning hit three of five as Chicago sunk 14 of 32 shots (43.8%) from behind the arc.
En route to its 22nd consecutive series win, Chicago outshot the Spartans (7-15, 0-11) 49% to 39% from the field and held a 43-37 edge on the boards.
Mason Conrad led all scorers with 18 points, while Anthony Durr chipped in 10 for Case.
