Chicago Announces Fifth 2008-09 Newcomer
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago Head Men's Basketball Coach Mike McGrath announced today that Alex Doyle (Lutz, Fla./ Tampa Catholic) has enrolled at the University and plans to play for the Maroons beginning in 2008-09.
Playing for Head Coach Don Dziagwa , the 6'8" Doyle averaged 13 points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots per game for Tampa Catholic High School this past season.
"Alex is a tremendously talented player, and his abilities are well suited to our system," said McGrath, who is 152-80 in nine years at Chicago. "We are excited that he and his family have chosen to become part of our program."
Doyle was named honorable mention All-Hillsborough County by the Tampa Tribune and St. Petersburg Times and was selected as an Academic All-Star by the Tampa Bay Basketball Coaches Association.
Doyle joins Tommy Sotos (Elk Grove Village, Ill./ Conant), Steve Stefanou (Cincinnati, Ohio/ St. Xavier), Michael Sustarsic (Liberty, Ind./ Union County), and Tom Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio./ St. Xavier) as members of the Chicago men's basketball class of 2012.
Chicago won its second straight University Athletic Association championship and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament in 2007-08. The Maroons, who notched an 18-8 overall record, made their fourth NCAA postseason appearance under McGrath.
