Maroons Rout Emory
CHICAGO -- Senior forward Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) and sophomore point guard Jake Pancratz (Schaumburg, Ill./ Schaumburg) each scored 19 points as the University of Chicago men's basketball team cruised to a 91-65 win over University Athletic Association rival Emory University Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.
Chicago (9-5 overall, 2-1 UAA) built 21-5 lead at the midpoint of the first period and extended its advantage to 46-25 at the half. The Maroons led by at least 20 points for the game's final 15:15.
En route to their largest victory margin of the year, the Maroons connected on 15 of 31 attempts from three-point range.
Sophomore forward John Kinsella (Chicago, Ill./ University High), sophomore guard John Bonelli (San Francisco, Calif./ St. Ignatius), and Pancratz each sunk three treys on the afternoon. Pancratz has hit multiple three-pointers in 11 straight games.
Chicago collected 26 assists – including five each from senior guard Kirk Ellsworth (Saginaw, Mich./ Swan Valley), Hainje, Pancratz, and Kinsella – on their 30 baskets.
Hainje and senior forward Tim Reynolds (North Canton, Ohio/ Hoover) each pulled down seven rebounds as Chicago won its seventh straight game at the Ratner Center.
Anthony Fernandez and Spiros Ferderigos paced Emory (8-6, 1-2) with 17 and 16 points, respectively. John Kresse handed out a game-high six assists.
