Nate Hainje Nets All-America Honors
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago senior men's basketball player Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) has been named to the 2008 State Farm NCAA Division III All-America Second Team, selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
The 2008 University Athletic Association Player of the Year, Hainje earned NABC First Team and D3hoops.com Second Team All-Midwest Region accolades earlier this week. He was also selected as an honorable mention All-American by D3hoops.com
Averaging 16.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, Hainje led Chicago (18-8) to the UAA championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. He was the only player in the conference to rank among the top ten in scoring, rebounding, and assists during the regular season.
A three-time UAA player of the week, Hainje tallied double figures on 19 occasions, including five games with 20 or more points. He also notched eight double-doubles -- six of them coming in the team's final seven contests.
During the second half of the UAA round robin schedule, Hainje averaged 23.9 points and 9.9 boards as the Maroons won six of their last seven contests. He scored 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the Maroons defeated Washington (Mo.) University 74-66 on the final day of the regular season in the game that determined the UAA champion.
Hainje capped his career with a 14-point, 11-rebound effort in an NCAA tournament opening-round loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Hainje finished his career ranked among Chicago's all-time leaders in scoring (1,119 - 11th), assists (268 - 5th), rebounds (588 - 7th), three-point field goals (146 - 6th), and free throws (211 - 9th).
Since Hainje's debut at the start of the 2004-05 campaign, Chicago teams have compiled a combined record of 63-39 (.618) overall and 36-20 (.643) in UAA play with a pair of league titles.
