Maroons Defeat Kalamazoo 75-55

CHICAGO -- Sophomore forward John Kinsella (Chicago, Ill./ University) led four Maroons in double figures with a career-high 14 points as the University of Chicago men's basketball team cruised past Kalamazoo College 75-55 in non-conference play Saturday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Chicago (3-3) used a 9-0 run to turn a 17-15 deficit into a 24-17 lead midway through the first half before building a 35-26 advantage at the break.

A Kinsella basket with 11:07 left in the game put the Maroons on top 57-36. From that point on, Chicago was in front by at least 20 points.

Senior forward Tim Reynolds (North Canton, Ohio/ Hoover) and junior guard Matt Corning (Wauconda, Ill./ Mundelein) each scored 12 points for the Maroons, while senior forward Zach Sheline (Middleton, Wis./ Middleton) added a career-best 11 points in 13 minutes off the bench.

Reynolds also collected four blocked shots and three steals as Chicago snapped a two-game losing skid.

Chicago held Kalamazoo (0-5) to 28.1% field goal shooting and outrebounded the Hornets by a 43-39 edge.

Kalamazoo's Henry McCain led all scorers with 21 points to go along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Nate Orozco and Pat Clancy chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
