Chicago Gains Share of UAA Lead

CHICAGO -- Senior forward Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) poured in a career-high 30 points to lead the University of Chicago to an 81-62 win over New York University in University Athletic Association men's basketball action Friday night at the Ratner Athletics Center.

The win moved Chicago (16-7 overall, 9-3 UAA) into a three-way tie atop the UAA standings with Brandeis University and Washington (Mo.) University. Brandeis, which visits the Ratner Center on Sunday afternoon, defeated Washington 68-66 Friday in St. Louis.

Hainje exploded for 23 points in the first half as he connected on eight of 10 shots from the field, including four of six from three-point distance. Hainje, whose 12 rebounds gave him his fourth consecutive double-double, turned in the first 30-point performance by a Chicago player since Feb. 11, 2005.

Chicago jumped out to an early 11-1 lead and from that point on held a double-digit advantage for all but 1:16 the rest of the night. The Maroons built a 43-33 lead at the break.

Junior guard Matt Corning (Wauconda, Ill./ Mundelein), sophomore guard Jake Pancratz (Schaumburg, Ill./ Schaumburg), and junior forward Adam Machones (Duluth, Minn./ Marshall) also finished in double figures as Chicago won its fourth straight game and raised its Ratner Center record to 10-2.

Corning tallied 14 points on six-of-nine shooting from the field. Pancratz scored 11 points, including three 3-point field goals, while Machones collected 10 points and eight boards.

Chicago shot 52% from the field and committed a season-low four turnovers.
