Maroons Fall in Midway Classic Title Game

CHICAGO -- B.J. Moon scored 16 of his 17 points in the second half to lift Trinity (Texas) University to a 63-58 victory over the University of Chicago men's basketball team in the championship game of the 11th annual Midway Classic Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Moon hit four three-pointers during a second period that featured seven lead changes and two ties. His trey with 5:16 remaining put the Tigers on top to stay, 49-47, and his final three-point basket at the 2:03 mark gave Trinity its largest lead of the night, 59-52.

Chicago (1-1) led for the final 6:19 of the first half en route to taking a 29-28 lead at the intermission.

The Maroons led for the last time at the 5:52 mark when junior guard Matt Corning's (Wauconda, Ill./ Mundelein) layup put them ahead 47-46.

Corning paced the Maroons with 17 points, and with senior forward Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) earned selection to the all-tournament team. Hainje contributed nine points, six boards, and three assists.

Sophomore forward John Kinsella (Chicago, Ill./ University High) scored a career-high 11 points for the Maroons, while Patrick Robinson and Luke Caldarera contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Tigers.

Trinity's Charles Houston, who collected nine points, four rebounds, and three steals, also earned all-tournament team honors.

Trinity shot 51% from the field, including an 8-for-12 effort (67%) from three-point distance. Chicago shot just 35% from the floor and was eight of 29 from behind the arc (30%).
