#7 Washington Defeats Chicago in UAA Opener

ST. LOUIS -- Troy Ruths scored a game-high 26 points as seventh-ranked Washington (Mo.) University defeated the University of Chicago men's basketball team 76-50 in the University Athletic Association debut for both teams Saturday at the WU Field House.

Ruths tallied 13 points in the first half as the Bears (10-2 overall, 1-0 UAA) built a 37-22 at the intermission. Washington shot at a 65% clip from the field in the first period, while holding Chicago (7-5, 0-1) to a 24% mark.

Washington outscored the Maroons 14-8 to start the second stanza and led by at least 18 points for the game's final 16:41. On the day, Washington outshot the Maroon from the field 62% to 30%.

Senior forward Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) was the only Maroons to net double figures, as he finished with 16 points and assists. Chicago lost for the first time in five games.

Tyler Nading and Danny O'Boyle scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the Bears notched their 22nd consecutive homecourt victory.
