Ryan McCarl Qualifies for Nationals
CHICAGO -- Senior Ryan McCarl (Muskegon, Mich./ Mona Shores) turned in a national-qualifying and school record-setting performance as the University of Chicago men's cross country team captured 12th place at the 35-team Midwest Regional Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
McCarl placed seventh among 258 competitors with an eight-kilometer time of 24:32 -- the fastest-ever clocked by a Chicago runner at that distance. As a result of his finish, McCarl earned the opportunity to compete at next weekend's NCAA Division III Championship meet in Northfield, Minn.
The University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point finished first and second, respectively, to earn automatic qualification to the national championship meet.
