BOSTON -- Freshman forward Alex Clifford (Houston, Texas/ Phillips Andover Academy) scored the only goal of the match as the University of Chicago defeated Brandeis University 1-0 in University Athletic Association men's soccer play Friday night.

With the victory, Chicago (6-5-1 overall, 1-1-1 UAA) snapped a three-game winless streak and picked up its first conference win of the campaign.

Clifford notched his team-leading sixth goal of the year -- and second game-winner -- at the 37:16 mark off an assist from freshman forward Ryan Fitzgerald (Beaverton, Ore./ Westview). Fitzgerald set up a Clifford goal for the second time in three UAA matches this season.

Freshman netminder Steven Baron (Chalfont, Pa./ Penn Charter) made four saves, including two in the final 15 minutes, en route to his third career shutout and first ever in UAA action.

Brandeis (6-5-2, 0-3) outshot the Maroons 13-9.
