Chicago Falls to #5 Case in Overtime
CHICAGO -- Kevin Bigart scored midway though the first overtime period to lift fifth-ranked Case Western Reserve University to a 2-1 win over the University of Chicago in University Athletic Association men's soccer action Friday at Stagg Field.
Bigart headed in a corner kick off the foot of teammate Justin Steggerda 5:54 into the first overtime stanza as Case (12-3-1 overall, 3-2 UAA) completed the come-from-behind win.
The Maroons (6-8-1, 1-3-1) opened the scoring in the 38th minute on sophomore forward Edgar Friloux's (Madison, Wis./ West) fourth goal of the year. Freshman midfielder Kenzo Manners (Japan/ Hamamatsu-Kita) fed the ball to Friloux whose shot from 20 yards away found the back of the net.
Case evened the score in the 54th minute when Matt Paglia took a cross from Steggerda and scored from 12 yards out.
Case held a 12-8 edge in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Chad Skidmore made one save for the Spartans, while freshman goalkeeper Steven Baron (Chalfont, Pa./ Penn Charter) collected a pair for Chicago.
The Maroons dropped their third straight match, while Case extended its unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1).
