Chicago Falls to #18 Emory in Double O.T.
CHICAGO -- Emory University's Patrick Carver scored the tying goal in the 79th minute before tallying the game-winner early in the second overtime period to lift the 18th-ranked Eagles to a 3-2 University Athletic Association win over the University of Chicago men's soccer team Saturday at Stagg Field.
Chicago (5-4 overall, 0-1 UAA) led 1-0 and 2-1 both as a result of goals from freshman forward Alex Clifford (Houston, Texas/ Phillips Academy Andover), his third and fourth of the season.
Clifford scored just 9:07 into the contest off an assist from sophomore midfielder Joseph Farias-Eisner (Calabasas, Calif./ Harvard-Westlake) for the game's first goal.
Emory (10-0, 1-0) tied the game at 1-1 when Michael Scannapieco found the net at the 39:34 mark.
Clifford, who notched his first career multiple goal effort, put the Maroons in the lead when he tallied at 73:00. Freshman forward Ryan Fitzgerald (Beaverton, Ore./ Westview) was credited with the assist.
Carver forced the overtime with his 11th goal of the season in the 79th minute.
After a scoreless first overtime period, Carver scored the game-winner 1:46 into the second overtime stanza.
