Maroons Blank Lake Forest
LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- In his second career start, freshman goalkeeper Steven Baron (Chalfont, Pa./ Penn Charter) stopped seven shots as the University of Chicago men's soccer team defeated host Lake Forest College 2-0 in non-conference play on Tuesday.
Baron collected all seven of his saves in the second half to preserve the Maroons' 2-0 halftime advantage.
Freshman midfielder Ryan Fitzgerald (Beaverton, Ore./ Westview) and sophomore midfielder Joseph Farias-Eisner (Calabasas, Calif./ Harvard-Westlake) scored in the 10th and 16th minutes, respectively, as the Maroons jumped out to an early lead.
Fitzgerald's unassisted goal was his second of the year and first career game-winner.
Senior forward Andrew Hamilton (Springfield, Ill./ Sacred Heart-Griffin) and freshman forward Alex Clifford (Houston, Texas/ Phillips Academy Andover) assisted on Farias-Eisner's goal, his first of the campaign.
The win marked the Maroons' second straight and third in their last four outings.
Lake Forest slipped to 2-2 on the year.
