#19 NYU Downs Chicago 3-2
NEW YORK -- New York University's Adam Dhanens scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the 75th minute, to lift the 19th-ranked Violets to a 3-2 victory over the University of Chicago men's soccer team in University Athletic Association play Sunday afternoon.
With the game tied at 1-1, Dhanens scored what proved to be the winning goal off a 2-on-1 at the 74:21 mark. He then set up teammate Robert Keller's goal just 83 seconds later to give the Violets (9-3-1 overall, 2-2 UAA) a 3-1 lead.
Chicago (6-6-1, 1-2-1) pulled to within a goal when senior midfielder Stuart Phelps (Helena, Mont./ Capital) converted a penalty kick for his first goal of the year with 7:26 left in the match, but the Violets held on for the win.
Dhanens gave NYU the early lead with his first goal of the day 14:46 into the contest for the only goal of the first half.
Chicago evened the score 4:40 into the second stanza when freshman midfielder Ryan Fitzgerald (Beaverton, Ore./ Westview) tallied his third goal of the season off an assist from senior forward Andrew Hamilton (Springfield, Ill./ Sacred Heart-Griffin).
Marek Urbanski collected four saves for the Violets, while freshman goalkeeper Steven Baron (Chalfont, Pa./ Penn Charter) was credited with two for Chicago.
