Chicago Wins Home Opener
CHICAGO -- Senior forward Andrew Hamilton (Springfield, Ill./ Sacred Heart-Griffin) and freshman forward Alex Clifford (Houston, Texas/ Phillips Academy Andover) scored eight minutes apart midway through the first half as the University of Chicago men's soccer team defeated Robert Morris College-Lake County 2-1 Saturday at Stagg Field.
Clifford scored his first career goal off a direct kick at the 24:26 mark to give the Maroons (2-2) the lead.
Hamilton then notched his first goal of the season -- and fourth career game-winner -- at 34:32. Sophomore forward Edgar Friloux (Madison, Wis./ West) and sophomore midfielder Joseph Farias-Eisner (Calabasas, Calif./ Harvard-Westlake) were credited with assists.
Robert Morris (4-2) got on the board in the 84th minute when Luis Patlan took a long feed from Scottie Malagon and fired the ball past Chicago freshman netminder Steven Baron (Chalfont, Pa./ Penn Charter). Making his first career start, Baron made one save on the afternoon.
En route to its fourth consecutive home-opening victory, Chicago outshot the Eagles 9-4.
