Maroons Fall to #5 Rochester
CHICAGO -- Three different Yellowjackets scored first-half goals as the fifth-ranked University of Rochester defeated the University of Chicago 3-1 in University Athletic Association men's soccer action Sunday at Stagg Field.
Jeremy Mann got Rochester (12-2-2 overall, 5-0-1 UAA) on the board just 3:23 into the match when he tallied off a cross from Timmer McCarthy.
Chicago (6-9-1, 1-4-1) tied the game at the 27:40 mark on freshman midfielder Kenzo Manners's (Japan/ Hamamatsu-Kita) first career goal. Sophomore forward Edgar Friloux (Madison, Wis./ West) set up the goal with his second assist of the season.
Rochester regained the lead 35 seconds later. Dominic Pellingra sent a cross into the goal box where Steve Welles collected the ball and sent it into the net to put the Yellowjackets on top 2-1.
J.J. Dennstedt capped the scoring on a 12-yard shot off an assist from Patrick Ripp at 39:34.
Chicago, which was outshot 10-3 in the first half, held a 7-3 shots advantage in the second period, but Rochester netminder Michael Peacock made a pair of saves to preserve the victory.
