Maroons Fall to Wisconsin-Whitewater
CHICAGO -- Three different players scored as the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater defeated the University of Chicago men's soccer team 3-0 Wednesday at Stagg Field.
Chicago (5-5) trailed by a goal until late in the match when the visiting Warhawks (11-1) tallied twice in the game's final seven minutes.
Luke Buchholz scored the only goal of the first half at the 24:13 mark after taking a short cross from Nick Haertel.
The score remained 1-0 until the 84th minute when Ben Volz directed a long feed from Matt Gehn past Chicago freshman netminder Steven Baron (Chalfont, Pa./ Penn Charter). Baron made three saves in the contest.
Brett Acree capped the scoring with 1:44 remaining on a 16-yard shot off an assist from Luke Mangognia.
The Warhawks outshot Chicago, which lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, by a 16-8 margin. The Maroons did not put a shot on goal.
