Chicago Wins Home Invite

CHICAGO -- Junior Shane Carlson (Houston, Texas/ Memorial) won three individual events, and senior diver Paul Accardi (Bristol, Pa./ Holy Ghost) set a pair of school records as the University of Chicago men's swimming & diving team led the field at the 10-team Chicago Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool.

Carlson took top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.74), 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.52), and 400-yard individual medley (4:11.61) in addition to swimming a leg of three first-place relay teams (200-yard freestyle, 400-yard medley, 800-yard freestyle).

Freshman Sebastien Davis-VanGelder (Falls Church, Va./ Marshall) also won multiple events, as he led the way in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke (55.92, 1:59.90).

Accardi established school records in the 1-meter (227.75) and 3-meter (234.40) diving events.

In all, Chicago swimmers won 11 individual events and swept all five relays as the Maroons won the team title with 1,282 points. The Illinois Institute of Technology placed second with 670 points.
