Chicago Takes Second at Maroon Invite
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago men's swimming & diving team finished in second place at the nine-team Maroon Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool.
Chicago and Washington (Mo.) University were tied heading into the weekend's final event -- the 400-yard freestyle relay -- but the Bears' two relay teams collected 72 points to 62 for Chicago. As a result, Washington edged the Maroons 925-915 for the team title. Kalamazoo College placed a distant third with 674 points.
Three Maroons took top honors in their respective events: senior Zach Ergish (Moreno Valley, Calif./ Valley View) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.68), junior Shane Carlson (Houston, Texas/ Memorial) in the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.52), and junior Alex Stabell (Godfrey, Ill./ Alton) in the 100-yard butterfly (52.67 seconds).
