Maroons Sweep #10 Carthage, #25 Wheaton
CHICAGO -- The 24th-ranked University of Chicago men's swimming & diving team defeated a pair of nationally-ranked foes in dual meet competition Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool, as it bested 10th-ranked Carthage College 180-104 and #25 Wheaton (Ill.) College 223-61.
Chicago swimmers won seven individual swimming events and both relays.
Junior Shane Carlson (Houston, Texas/ Memorial) notched three first-place finishes, taking top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.78), 200-yard individual medley (1:58.60), and 500-yard freestyle (4:45.05). He also swam the second leg of the Maroons' 200-yard medley relay team (1:38.27).
Junior Alex Stabell (Godfrey, Ill./ Alton) led the way in the 100-yard butterfly (1:57.78) and swam a leg of the Maroons' 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle (3:12.16) relays.
Chicago improved to 7-0 in dual meet competition, with four victories over opponents currently ranked among the top 25 in the NCAA Division III.
