Maroons Place 3rd at Chicagolands
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago men's indoor track & field team captured third place at the 18-team Chicagoland Championship Saturday at the Henry Crown Field House.
Freshman Jacob Solus (Crestwood, Ill./ Oak Forest) turned in an NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying performance in the triple jump with a leap of 14.18 meters, good for second place.
Sophomore Bill Cheng (Island Lake, Ill./ Wauconda) was the Maroons' lone event winner, as he took top honors in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.58 seconds. Sophomore Blake Obuchowski (Geneva, Ill./ Geneva) was the runner-up at 6.64 seconds.
Senior Zach Rodgers (Nashville, Tenn./ University) placed among the top three in two events. He was the runner-up in the long jump (6.64 m) and third-place finisher in the 55-meter hurdles (8.25).
Senior Ryan McCarl (Muskegon, Mich./ Mona Shores) clocked a time of 4:19.85 in the mile run, placing him third in the event.
North Central College won the event with 215 points. Lewis University and Chicago were next with 92 and 88 points, respectively.
