Maroons Fall to #7 Washington;
Zhang Defeats Nation's Top Singles Player
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to seventh-ranked Washington (Mo.) University Sunday at Bally's Hyde Park.
The highlight of the match for the Maroons came at first singles where freshman Will Zhang (Wynnewood, Pa./ Lower Merion) posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Washington's John Watts, who entered the match as the top-ranked singles player in the NCAA Division III.
Chicago and Washington split the six singles matches, as sophomore Garrett Brinker (Granger, Ind./ Penn) and freshman Mark Bonner (Chicago, Ill./ Latin School) won at the fourth and sixth positions, respectively.
Currently ranked 13th in the Central Region, the Maroons fell to 7-4 overall and 6-2 against Division III opponents. Washington, which stands third in the Central Region, improved to 6-2.
