Maroons Win Key Regional Clash
ELKHORN, Wis. -- The University of Chicago men's tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches with a 7-2 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Sunday afternoon.
Chicago entered the match ranked 13th in the Central Region, while the Warhawks stood seventh.
Freshman Will Zhang (Wynnewood, Pa./ Lower Merion) won in straight sets at first singles and teamed up with sophomore Garrett Brinker (Granger, Ind./ Penn) to win 9-8 (8-6) at second doubles.
Freshman Mark Bonner (Chicago, Ill./ Latin School) also won in singles and doubles play. He posted a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 victory at sixth singles and with senior Bharath Sithian (Staten Island, N.Y./ Staten Island Academy) won 8-1 at third doubles.
Chicago improved to 3-1 on the season, including a 2-0 mark against NCAA Division III foes. Wisconsin-Whitewater fell to 4-2.
