Maroons Win Home Opener
CHICAGO -- On the strength of two first-place finishes and eight runner-up performances, the University of Chicago men's indoor track & field team won the eight-team Phoenix Invitational Saturday at the Henry Crown Field House.
Senior Ryan McCarl (Muskegon, Mich./ Mona Shores) and freshman Jacob Solus (Crestwood, Ill./ Oak Forest) won the mile run (4:22.86) and triple jump (13.91 m), respectively.
Senior Zach Rodgers (Nashville, Tenn./ University) was the runner-up in the long jump (6.23 m) as well as the fifth-place finisher in the 55-meter hurdles (8.46 seconds).
Seven other Maroons finished second in their events as the Maroons edged Augustana (Ill.) College 167-151 for the team title. Olivet Nazarene University was a distant third with 96 points.
