Chicago Finishes Fifth at Chicagolands

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Thirteen different athletes scored as the University of Chicago men's outdoor track & field team placed fifth at the 20-team Chicagoland Championships Friday and Saturday at North Central College.

Freshman Harry Backlund (St. Paul, Minn./ Highland Park) turned in the team's top individual finish with a runner-up showing in the 1,500-meter run (3:57.92).

Four other Maroons placed third in their respective events: sophomore Patrick Offner (Houston, Texas/ Awty International) in the 400-meter hurdles (56.10), freshman Brian Andreycak (Pleasantville, N.Y./ Fordham Prep) in the 110-meter hurdles (15.71), freshman Nick Nunez Algonquin, Ill. (Dundee-Crown) in the steeplechase (9:52.37), and freshman Jacob Solus (Crestwood, Ill./ Oak Forest) in the triple jump (13.63 m).

Host North Central won the meet with 158.5 points, 32.5 ahead of second-place Lewis University. Chicago collected 59 points on the weekend.
