Maroons Fall Twice at Illinois Wesleyan
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The University of Chicago softball team dropped a pair of 8-0 decisions at Illinois Wesleyan University Sunday afternoon.
Allison Ward and Kelly Nelson each homered to lead an 11-hit Titan attack in game one. Christy Engel (9-1) allowed two hits and one walk while fanning seven in the five-inning affair.
In game two, Valerie Hackett (6-2) slugged a pair of home runs and pitched four shutout innings as Illinois Wesleyan (17-3) completed the sweep.
Junior Jen Jacobson (Schaumburg, Ill./ Conant) went 1-for-2 in the opener and 2-for-2 in the second game to extend her hitting streak to 11 games, the longest by a Chicago player this year and the second-longest since the 2004 campaign.
Chicago fell to 7-9 on the season.
