Maroons Split Two at IWU
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The University of Chicago softball team split a pair of games at the Illinois Wesleyan University Tournament. After dropping a 17-12 slugfest to Hope College on Friday, the Maroons rebounded with an 8-0 win over Calvin College Saturday. Rain caused cancellation of all other schedule games.
Hope (18-6) and Chicago combined for 32 hits, including eight for extra bases, in Friday's contest.
Junior shortstop Jen Jacobson (Schaumburg, Ill./ Conant) went 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while sophomore pitcher Kathleen Duffy (Hoffman Estates, Ill./ Barrington), freshman designated hitter Sara Whaley (Bakersfield, Calif./ Christian), and freshman center fielder Caitlin Romano (Bealeton, Va./ Liberty) each collected a pair of RBIs.
In Saturday's win over Calvin (7-16), freshman pitcher Christy Corfias (Perry, Ohio/ Perry) allowed just two hits over six innings as the Maroons (8-12) snapped a five-game losing streak.
Jacobson went 2-for-4 to extend her hitting streak to 15 games. Duffy belted a three-run home run, her second of the season.
