Chicago Swept at #23 UW-Oshkosh
OSHKOSH, Wis. -- The University of Chicago softball team dropped both halves of a doubleheader Saturday at the 23rd-ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, losing the opener 7-5 before falling 8-0 in game two.
The Maroons rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh inning in Saturday's first game, but Wisconsin-Oshkosh held on for the 7-5 win.
Sophomore pitcher Lauren White (Oakland, Calif./ Bentley), who went the distance, went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while freshman Hannah Lighty (Mokena, Ill./ Lincoln-Way East) delivered a pinch-hit two-run double in the seventh inning.
White (3-8) allowed five hits and eight walks while fanning six. Four of the Titans' seven runs were unearned.
Ronessa Stampfli (12-3) pitched 6.2 innings to pick up the win. She struck out 13 before giving way to Amy Sullivan, who retired the game's final batter to notch the save.
In the second game, Sullivan (8-5) allowed just three hits while striking out 10 as the Titans rolled to the 8-0 win.
Junior shortstop Jen Jacobson (Schaumburg, Ill./ Conant) had one of the Maroons' three hits to extend her hitting streak to 23 games. She was 2-for-4 in the opener.
Sophomore pitcher Kathleen Duffy (Hoffman Estates, Ill./ Barrington) (5-7) took the loss, as she was tagged for six earned runs in 4.1 innings of work.
