CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago softball team lost twice to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Wednesday at Stagg Field. The Warhawks won the first game 7-6 before taking the nightcap 12-4.
The Maroons jumped out to a 6-1 lead in game one. Freshman right fielder Jennifer Simile (Glenshaw, Pa./ Shaler Area) capped a five-run Chicago outburst with a three-run home run in the opening inning.
Wisconsin-Whitewater took advantage of two Chicago errors in a four-run sixth inning, then plated the go-ahead run on a two-out single from Lauren Cruz in the top of the seventh.
Jessica Stang (3-1) threw four hitless innings in relief to pick up the victory. Sophomore Kathleen Duffy (Hoffman Estates, Ill./ Barrington), who was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, took the loss (3-4) in a complete game effort.
The Warhawks (13-3) then pounded out 12 hits off two Chicago hurlers in a 12-4 five-inning win in the nightcap.
Dianna Frisbie (3-0) earned the win, while sophomore Lauren White (Oakland, Calif./ Bentley School) took the loss (3-5) for Chicago (7-11).
With a pair of hits in each contest, junior shortstop Jen Jacobson (Schaumburg, Ill./ Conant) extended her hitting streak to 13 games to match the longest streak by a Chicago player since the 2004 campaign.
