CHICAGO -- Three University of Chicago student-athletes have been selected as the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for their respective sports, the conference announced today.
Senior forward Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) turned in back-to-back double-doubles and scored his 1,000th career point as the men's basketball team won a pair of UAA games on the road.
In an 87-73 win over Emory University (Feb. 15), Hainje finished with 23 points – including the 1,000th of his career – and 11 rebounds. He then collected 14 points and 10 boards as the Maroons defeated Case Western Reserve University 84-56 (Feb. 17). In the two games, Hainje shot 54% from the field (14-26) and 57% from three-point range (4-7).
With a 13.31-meter throw, sophomore Claire Ray (Park Ridge, Ill./ St. Ignatius) met the NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying standard en route to winning the shot put competition as the women's indoor track & field team captured second place at the Chicagoland Championship (Feb. 15).
