Two Maroons Earn UAA Weekly Recognition

CHICAGO -- University of Chicago seniors Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) and Appie Hirve (Burke, Va./ Jefferson Science & Math) have been named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for men's basketball and women's indoor track & field, respectively.

Hainje scored 54 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, and dished out six assists as the Maroons won a pair of UAA games to gain a share of first place. He poured in a career-high 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in an 81-62 win over New York University (Feb. 22) before scoring a game-high 24 points in a 74-66 victory over sixth-ranked Brandeis University (Feb. 24).

Hirve met the NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying standard in the triple jump with a distance of 11.52 meters at Chicago's inaugural Margaret Bradley Invitational. Her performance, which was good for first place, helped the Maroons win the 10-team event.
