CHICAGO -- University of Chicago junior Rachel Venezia (Canton, Mass./ Canton) and sophomore Kathleen Duffy (Hoffman Estates, Ill./ Barrington) have been named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for women's outdoor track & field and softball, respectively.

Venezia won the steeplechase competition as the Maroons opened their outdoor campaign last Saturday at the Ted Haydon Invitational. Venezia clocked a time of 11:17.74, which was just 4.74 seconds off the NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying standard.

Duffy hit .688 (11-for-16) with nine runs scored and five RBIs as the Maroons split the final six games of their season-opening spring break tour in Tucson, Ariz. Duffy, who slugged .938 and posted a .714 on-base percentage, started three games in left field, two as a pitcher, and one at shortstop.
