CHICAGO -- University of Chicago senior Appie Hirve (Burke, Va./ Jefferson Science & Math) has been selected as the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for women's outdoor track & field.

Hirve met an NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying standard with an 11.51-meter leap in the triple jump competition at the Hillsdale College Gina Relays. She placed fourth in the event – first among non-Division I athletes.

An All-American in the triple jump during the 2008 indoor campaign, Hirve boasts the UAA's second-best outdoor triple jump performance to date.
