Chicago Nets UAA Athletes of the Week in Two Sports
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago senior men's cross country athlete Ryan McCarl (Muskegon, Mich./ Mona Shores) and senior volleyball player Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) have been named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week in their respective sports.
McCarl was the individual runner-up as the men's cross country team opened its season with a first-place showing at the Elmhurst College Invitational on Aug. 31. McCarl clocked a time of 19:07.77 on the six-kilometer course, placing him just 2.62 seconds off the pace of the top finisher.
Kendall earned All-Tournament Team honors as the volleyball team split four matches en route to a third-place finish at the St. Norbert College Invitational.
Kendall led the team in kills in three of the four matches, compiling 21 kills in a 3-0 win over Finlandia University, 25 in a four-game decision over Marian College, and 19 in a five-game setback against Aurora University. In the four matches, she recorded a .528 attack percentage (77-10-128).
