Gaby Fernandez Named UAA Player of the Week

CHICAGO -- University of Chicago senior linebacker Gaby Fernandez (Miami, Fla./ Columbus) has been named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for football (defense), the conference announced today.

Fernandez intercepted three passes, all in the second half, as the Maroons defeated Macalester College 21-13 this past Saturday.

His first of two fourth-quarter picks stopped the Scots inside the Chicago red zone with 11:55 remaining. He then intercepted a pass near midfield to stall Macalester's next drive at the 5:47 mark.

Fernandez, who finished with eight tackles on the day, was also credited with a forced fumble.
