CHICAGO -- Four University of Chicago student-athletes have been recognized as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week in their respective sports, the conference announced today.
The UAA honored sophomore midfielder Claire Gill (Los Altos Hills, Calif./ King's Academy) in women's soccer, junior Vindya Dayananda (Kathmandu, Nepal/ Lincoln School) and sophomore Marissa Lin (Irvine, Calif./ Tustin) in women's tennis, and senior middle hitter Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) in volleyball.
Gill scored a goal in each match as the Maroons posted a 1-0-1 record on the road in Association play. She tallied a goal in the tenth minute of a 1-1 overtime draw with Brandeis University, then registered the winning goal two minutes into the game of a 4-0 victory over New York University.
Lin placed third in singles and teamed with Dayananda to finish fourth in doubles in the NCAA Division III draw at the 2007 Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Tennis Championships.
Kendall averaged 3.73 kills per game and registered a .564 hitting percentage (56-3-94) during the second round of UAA round robin play. She recorded double-digit kills with at least a .515 hitting percentage in all four matches, including a high of 18 kills in a five-game loss to New York University and 17 kills and a .640 hitting percentage in a three-game win over the University of Rochester.
During the weekend, Kendall also set the Chicago career record for total blocks (365) and became the fourth player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills.
