Chicago Splits Two at Gargoyle Classic
CHICAGO -- Led by All-Tournament Team selection, senior middle hitter Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage), the University of Chicago volleyball team split two matches on the second and final day of the Gargoyle Classic Saturday at the Ratner Athletics Center.
Kendall hit nine kills and notched a .348 attack percentage (9-1-23) in a 30-22, 30-21, 30-15 setback to Mount Union College (12-1) in Saturday's opening match. Sophomore outside hitter Diandra Bucciarelli (Del Mar, Calif./ Torrey Pines) also hit nine kills.
Kendall led the Maroons with four blocks, while Bucciarelli and junior outside hitter Kerry Dornfeld (Cary, Ill./ Cary) each collected three.
In Saturday's second contest, the Maroons (3-6) outlasted Defiance College (2-10) 28-30, 30-22, 30-25, 24-30, 15-9 to snap a five-match losing skid.
Kendall smashed 21 kills en route to a .419 hitting percentage (21-3-43). She also contributed three blocks.
Bucciarelli notched her fourth double-double of the year with 18 kills and 15 digs. Junior middle hitter Katie Volzer (North Canton, Ohio/ Lake) and freshman outside hitter Elizabeth Kossnar (Park Ridge, Ill./ Maine South) finished with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
