Maroons Drop Three at UAA Round Robin

NEW YORK CITY -- The University of Chicago volleyball team lost three matches at the University Athletic Association Round Robin Saturday and Sunday at New York University.

In the opening match on Saturday afternoon, the Maroons fell to Case Western Reserve University (8-9 overall, 1-0 UAA) 18-30, 30-14, 21-30, 30-22, 15-8.

Senior middle hitter Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) and sophomore outside hitter Diandra Bucciarelli (Del Mar, Calif./ Torrey Pines) led Chicago with 16 and 14 kills, respectively, while junior outside hitter Kerry Dornfeld (Cary, Ill./ Cary) contributed four block assists. Bucciarelli also collected 21 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.

In the first of two matches on Sunday, Chicago dropped a 24-30, 30-20, 30-28, 30-26 decision to Carnegie Mellon University (8-8, 1-1) despite a season-high 13 kills from Dornfeld. Freshman outside hitter Elizabeth Kossnar (Park Ridge, Ill./ Maine South) and Kendall collected 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Chicago (3-13, 0-3) closed out the weekend with a 30-20, 30-12, 30-22 loss to seventh-ranked Washington (Mo.) University (11-4, 3-0).

In the three contests, Kendall led the Maroons with 28 kills, while Dornfeld posted the team's top hitting percentage (.412). Other highlights included junior middle hitter Katie Volzer's (North Canton, Ohio/ Lake) 10 service aces and junior setter Nikki Boddicker's (Encino, Calif./ Buckley School) 94 assists.
