Maroons Finish 1-3 at UAA Round Robin;
Kendall Enters Record Books
CLEVELAND -- Senior middle hitter Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) etched her name into the University of Chicago volleyball record books as the Maroons posted a 1-3 mark at the University Athletic Association Round Robin #2 Saturday and Sunday at Case Western Reserve University.
During the weekend, Kendall established a Chicago career record for total blocks and reached the 1,000-career kill plateau.
She collected nine blocks to give her 365 for her career, surpassing the previous mark of 361 (Jeannie Kim, 1999-02). Kendall clubbed 56 kills in the four matches to increase her career total to 1,030. She joins Katie Meinhover (1,245 kills from 2002-05), Erica Pettke (1,087/2002-05), and Kelly Humphry (1,054/1993-96) on the Chicago 1,000-kill chart.
Kendall averaged 3.73 kills per game and hit at a .564 clip (56-3-94) on the weekend. She hit double-digit kills with at least a .515 attack percentage in all four matches.
Chicago (5-18 overall) finished round robin competition with a 1-6 mark, thus earning the #7 seed at the Nov. 2-3 UAA Championship Tournament to be held at the University of Rochester.
Brandeis def. Chicago 26-30, 30-26, 30-22, 30-20 (Oct. 13)
Junior Kerry Dornfeld (Cary, Ill./ Cary) and sophomore outside hitter Diandra Bucciarelli (Del Mar, Calif./ Torrey Pines) each hit 15 kills as the Maroons opened the weekend with a four-game loss to Brandeis University (16-5 overall, 2-2 UAA). Kendall hit 11 kills in 21 attempts without an error.
NYU def. Chicago 30-24, 21-30, 30-27, 27-30, 15-12 (Oct. 13)
With 24 kills and 29 digs, Bucciarelli turned in the Maroons' first 20-20 performance of the year in a five-game loss to New York University (14-13, 3-2). Kendall and Dornfeld hit 18 and 14 kills, respectively, while junior setter Nikki Boddicker (Encino, Calif./ Buckley School) was credited with a career-high 58 assists.
#6 Emory def. Chicago 30-17, 30-14, 30-23 (Oct. 14)
Kendall hit at a .600 clip (10-1-15) against the nation's sixth-ranked team, Emory University (22-5, 6-1).
Chicago def. Rochester 30-28, 37-35, 30-18 (Oct. 14)
Bucciarelli turned in her third double-double of the weekend and 10th of the year with 23 kills and 16 digs in a three-game win over Rochester (15-15, 0-7). Kendall and Dornfeld hit 17 and 11 kills, respectively. Boddicker finished with 55 assists.
