Chicago Players, Coaches Earn All-UAA Accolades

CHICAGO -- Three University of Chicago women's basketball players, including First Team selection sophomore forward Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic), have been named to the 2008 All-University Athletic Association Team.

Hackney, last season's UAA Rookie of the Year, garnered All-Association First Team honors after ranking among the league leaders in four categories: blocked shots (1st tie, 1.4), field goal percentage (3rd, .489), scoring (6th, 12.8), and rebounding (8th, 6.3).

Hackney averaged 13.1 points in conference play, including a 15.4 average during the final five games, as Chicago (20-5 overall, 11-3 UAA) captured the UAA title and an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III tournament.

A Second Team pick, senior guard Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) garnered All-Association honors for the fourth consecutive season. Mojidi was the league's 10th-leading scorer with 11.5 points per game. She capped the season with a game-high 25 points as the Maroons defeated Washington (Mo.) University 76-53 in the game that determined the UAA champion.

Junior guard Alex Leach (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren) received honorable mention recognition. Leach averaged 8.1 points per game on the season, with a 9.9 average in conference play. Seven of her nine double-digit performances came in UAA action.

Head Coach Aaron Roussell and Assistants Molly Dullea, Steve White, and Korry Schwanz were selected by their league counterparts as the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year.

Chicago will face the University of St. Thomas Friday, Mar. 7 in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Chicago makes its second NCAA postseason appearance and first since the 1994-95 campaign.
