Maroons Edge Brandeis 62-55;
Will Host Washington in UAA Title Game

CHICAGO -- Senior guard Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) and junior guard Alex Leach (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren) scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, to lead the 23rd-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team to a 62-55 win over #24 Brandeis University in University Athletic Association Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

The victory sets up a clash for the UAA title between Chicago (19-5 overall, 10-3 UAA) and Washington (18-6, 10-3) in next Saturday's regular season finale at the Ratner Center.

Sparked by a 13-0 run midway through the first period, Brandeis (17-7, 8-5) built a 28-20 advantage at the half.

The Judges remained in the lead for the first nine minutes of the second stanza, before freshman guard Dana Kaplan (Commack, N.Y./ Commack) made two layups 42 seconds apart to give the Maroons a 38-37 lead with 10:18 remaining.

Lauren Rashford converted a three-point play at the 9:28 mark to put Brandeis on top 42-38.

Kaplan and freshman forward Karly Kasper (Palos Park, Ill./ Stagg) then combined for 10 points during a 12-0 Chicago run that gave the Maroons a 50-42 lead with 6:38 to go. Kaplan finished the game with 10 points off the bench, all in the second half.

Brandeis cut the gap to three points, 57-54, on a pair of Kiersten Holgash foul shots with 1:23 to play, but Leach and Kasper each hit two free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the Maroons' sixth consecutive victory.

Sophomore forward Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) also finished in double figures with 12 points for the Maroons, who snapped Brandeis's seven-game series winning streak.

Jaime Capra and Lauren Orlando paced the Judges with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
