Chicago Routs Carnegie Mellon
PITTSBURGH -- Sophomore forward Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) led three Maroons in double figures with 17 points as the University of Chicago women's basketball team defeated Carnegie Mellon University 84-53 in University Athletic Association play Friday at Skibo Gymnasium.
Chicago (13-4 overall, 4-2 UAA) jumped out to a 17-2 lead, before Carnegie Mellon (7-10, 0-6) cut the gap to 21-18 midway through the opening period. Sparked by 67% field goal shooting, Chicago built a 46-31 lead at the intermission.
The Maroons opened the second half with an 11-4 run and maintained at least a 20-point lead for the game's final 10:52.
Junior guard Alex Leach (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren) and sophomore forward Jill DiNucci (Glenshaw, Pa./ Shaler Area) each added 12 points for the Maroons, who shot 55% from the field on the night.
Senior forward Nicaya Rapier (Munster, Ind./ Bishop Noll) grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds, while sophomore guard Jamie Stinson (Topeka, Kan./ Shawnee Heights) dished out a career-best 10 assists.
Colleen Light came off the bench to lead all scorers with 18 points for the Tartans. Stacie Aleski added 16 points.
Chicago held the Tartans to 30% shooting from the field.
