Chicago Rolls Past Carnegie Mellon

CHICAGO -- Senior forward Nicaya Rapier (Munster, Ind./ Bishop Noll) led a balanced attack with 10 points as the University of Chicago women's basketball team defeated Carnegie Mellon University 67-38 in University Athletic Association play Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

With the victory, Chicago (15-5 overall, 6-3 UAA) climbed into a tie for third place in the league standings, one game off the pace with five left to play.

Chicago held the Tartans to just one field goal during the game's first 14:04 as it took a 26-6 lead.

The Maroons led 33-13 at the break and maintained at least a 16-point advantage throughout the second period.

One of 12 Maroons to score, Rapier connected on four of five attempts from the field and was perfect on two free throw attempts. She also grabbed five rebounds.

Chicago enjoyed a 49-30 advantage on the boards. Sophomore forward Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) led the Maroons with nine rebounds, while sophomore forward Anna Woods (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./ Lower Merion) grabbed seven.

Rachelle Roll led Carnegie Mellon (7-13, 0-9) with 10 points and nine rebounds.
