Maroons Defeat Edgewood at UWEC Tournament
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Sophomore guard Jamie Stinson (Topeka, Kan./ Shawnee Heights) scored a career-high 12 points to lead the University of Chicago women's basketball team to a 66-45 win over Edgewood College in the first round of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Thanksgiving Showcase Friday evening.
Stinson was perfect on five attempts from the field, including a pair of shots from three-point range, as Chicago (3-0) cruised to the victory.
The Maroons scored the game's first 12 points and opened up a 39-21 lead at halftime. Chicago led by at least 20 points for the final 17:23.
Sophomore forward Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) collected 11 points, eight rebounds, and four steals to help lift the Maroons to a 3-0 record for the third consecutive season.
Chicago used 14 players in the contest -- 12 of whom scored -- with no player logging more than 20 minutes.
The Maroons outshot Edgewood 43% to 33% and held a commanding 44-27 edge on the boards.
Megan Scheele paced the Eagles (1-2) with a game-high 19 points.
