Maroons Defeat Emory
ATLANTA -- Sophomore forward Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) scored a game-high 18 points to lead the 24th-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team to a 68-52 win over Emory University in University Athletic Association play Friday night.
The win kept Chicago (16-5 overall, 7-3 UAA) locked in a tie for second place in the league standings with the University of Rochester and Brandeis University. Washington (Mo.) University owns sole possession of first place in the Association with an 8-2 mark in conference play.
Hackney, who was 9-for-13 from the field, also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots as the Maroons won their third straight game.
Chicago never trailed in the contest. The Maroons opened up a 37-24 advantage at the break and led by double digits throughout the second stanza.
Senior guards Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) and Lori Tanaka (Chicago, Ill./ Lane Tech) scored 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Chicago shot 53% from the field and 46% from three-point distance (6-for-13) and held a commanding 45-23 advantage on the boards.
Lora Turner and Erica Kaplan paced Emory (11-10, 4-6) with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
